Big Reds Ramble Over Spartans 51-0

Rolling up some impressive statistics, the number one ranked Big Reds rambled to a 51-0 homecoming win over the visiting Spartans from Greenbrier East as Matt Lindamood once again led the way with three touchdowns and 167 yards rushing and receiving.

Winning their fifth game of the season and 19th in a row, the Big Reds amassed 367 yards rushing and 71 passing for a 438 yard total for the night while holding East, now 2-3, to 133 yards on the ground and six yards through the air. PHS scored twice in each of the first three quarters before the second offensive unit tacked on a six-pointer in the fourth quarter. East never got any closer to the PHS end zone than the Big Red 35 yard line as senior linebacker Matt Littleton led the way with unofficially 12 tackles including a sack and a tackle for a loss.

Lindamood caught a 12 yard scoring pass and ran in from three and seven yards out while finishing the night with 135 yards rushing on 15 attempts and catching two passes for 32 yards. For the season the senior all-stater has 18 touchdowns, 110 points, 1,061 yards rushing and 1,1687 all-purpose yards. He did not play in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Warner kicked seven extra points during the game while putting six of his eight kickoffs into the end zone (and booting a seventh 64 yards after a penalty to the one yard line). He also punted once for 37 yards and made a tackle.

The Big Reds wasted little time getting on the board after forcing the visitors to punt. Starting from their own 35, they drove to the end zone in 10 plays with Andy Thomas finding a wide open Lindamood in the back of the end zone to complete a 12 yard scoring play with 5:14 left in the first quarter. Twelve-yard runs by Lindamood and Joey Shafer, who finished with a career best 71 yards on nine carries, were the big plays on the drive. 

    A minute and a half later, PHS was on the board again as Thomas broke through to block a punt with Matt Winans picking up the ball at the 19 and racing into the end zone to make it 14-0. 

    The offense was still clicking later in the first quarter when it took over at its 33 following a punt. In nine plays the Big Reds sent Lindamood up the middle from the three and he scored standing up behind some tremendous blocking with 9:27 left in the second quarter. A 22-yard run by Shafer was the big play.

    The final TD of the half came with a drive that started from the PHS 39 with 6:09 on the clock. A 20 yard run by Thomas and a 22 yard carry by Allen Butterfield were two of the big plays as was a 20 yard reception by Lindamood to the six yard line. Butterfield got the TD on a run around left end for the final two yards.

    After Nathan Stemple and Caitlin Campbell were crowned King and Queen at halftime, PHS needed just six plays to go 69 yards and get TD number five, a seven yard standup run by Lindamood, who had runs of six, 15 and 38 yards preceding the score after being "held" to 31 yards in the first half.

    A 10-play, 85 yard drive on the next possession ended on Shafer's six-yard scoring jaunt. The Big Reds had five plays of 10 or more yards on the drive, three of them by Lindamood to go with a 13 yard run by Butterfield and a 12 yard reception by Stephen Roush.

    The final TD came on a two yard run by Anthony Thorpe to cap a 53 yard, five play drive that was highlighted by Chris Row's 34 yard run.
